Online Entrepreneur | Rhonda Douglas

January 14, 2020

Today as part of 52 Women Entrepreneurs is Rhonda Douglas, an online entrepreneur from Canada.

I love stories, what’s your story?

I’m a poet and fiction author originally from Newfoundland, Canada. My work has been published and won awards in Canada and then I turned my hand to helping other writers achieve their own writing dreams. I’m particularly passionate about helping women writers because I think that typically we have so much going on in our lives and sometimes our own dreams don’t take priority.

Tell me about your business?

I help women writers finish their books and create a writing life they love.

Why did you become an entrepreneur?

I had been offering offline workshops and working 1:1 with writers for several years. I didn’t think of it as a “business” as such, it was just part of my work in the writing community. I became an entrepreneur in my own mind when I began thinking of how I could reach more women writers and help get MORE books finished and out into the world.

Who is your ideal client?

My ideal client is a writer who has taken workshops before and tried to complete a book but finds herself distracted by everything else she has going on in her life and sometimes side-lined by the voice of self-doubt. She really wants to finish her book and become a published author and needs some support to finally get out of her own way.

As an entrepreneur we face a lot of challenges, what has been your biggest challenge?

This work is in addition to a busy day job in the social justice arena for me, so making the time to focus on my business in the evenings and weekends and very early mornings has been super important.

What has been you biggest accomplishment in your business?

Finishing and launching my online course: First Book Finish

What’s one thing you’ve learned about yourself as an entrepreneur?

I actually enjoy marketing!

What advice would you give someone who just started or wants to become an entrepreneur?

Keep your focus on how far you’ve come and the progress you’ve made already. Steady, consistent action will help you overcome your fears.

Share one fun fact about yourself?

I love to dance! Tango, flamenco, salsa…if there’s a beat, I’ll dance to it.

What’s your favorite quote?

“The first draft is just you telling yourself the story.” — Terry Pratchett
