Today, I want to talk to you about the power of Time Blocking also known as Time Boxing.
I was introduced to this method a few years ago and it has completely changed the way I show up to work and how I manage my time.
Time blocking or calendar blocking is a method used to plan out every moment of your day in advance and dedicating time blocks for certain tasks.
Once I have assigned my time blocks it’s time to take action. I like to work in 50 minutes increments and a 10-minute break in-between. I’m very intentional with my time and I’m laser focus when I’m working. That means removing all and any distractions that are going to prevent me from getting the job done. It is important for me to also honor my 10-minute breaks. I use this time to stretch, take my dog for a walk, or grab a snack to fuel me throughout the day.
I’m old school so I like to use a paper calendar but google calendar or any digital calendar works as well. Below is an example of a workday for me. Please keep in mind that the 50/10 rule only applies when I’m in the office. If I’m shooting a session, attending a meeting, or a networking event, my time blocks are going to look a little different. I may also add that time blocking is going to look different for everyone as well. Everyone has different work schedules, different priorities and that’s the beauty of time blocking. You can use this method and customize it.
Time blocking is the reason why I get so much done and I’m able to manage my time. Let me know in the comments if you use time blocking or if this is new to you.
