There is something that happens when you step out of your daily routine, get on a plane, and give yourself full permission to think. No client emails. No content to post. No to-do list pulling you in five directions. Just you, your vision, and the space to finally sit with it.
Today, I am sharing with you what I Learned at the Flourish Retreat (And Why I Invest in Education Every Single Year)
Every year, I set two non-negotiables for myself as a business owner. No matter how busy life gets, no matter how full my calendar looks, I commit to attending at least one event focused on the craft of photography and at least one focused on the business and education side of what I do.
This is not a luxury. This is an investment in the woman I am becoming as a photographer and entrepreneur.
I have learned over the years that growing a personal brand photography business requires more than technical skill. It requires strategy. It requires clarity. It requires being around other women who are building something too, women who understand the calling you feel to do this work and who will cheer you on as loudly as you cheer them on.
That is why these two annual commitments are sacred to me.

This year, the Flourish Retreat with Meg McMillan was the one calling my name. As a personal brand photographer and educator, I am always looking for opportunities that go deeper than surface-level tips. I want rooms full of real conversations, strategic thinking, and women who are serious about showing up in their businesses.
San Diego made it even better. It is one of my favorite cities, and there is something about being near the ocean that slows everything down in the best way. Watching the sun set over the water while thinking about where I want to take my business? That is the kind of perspective shift that is hard to manufacture at home.
Getting away to a retreat like this gave me something I did not even realize I needed until I was there: focused time to think about how I want to grow.
As personal brand photographers, we spend so much of our time focused on our clients, their vision, their goals, their brands. The retreat reminded me to turn that same intentionality inward. Where am I going? What do I want my photography business to look like? What do I want to be known for?
Meeting the other women there was one of the highlights. There is nothing like being in a room with like-minded women who are building businesses rooted in purpose. I left with connections I genuinely hope become long-lasting friendships, the kind where we are still cheering each other on years from now as we grow our businesses and step further into our visibility.
If you are a personal brand photographer or any kind of creative entrepreneur, I want to encourage you to take your education seriously. Not just the craft, but the business. The strategy. The visibility. The mindset.
Retreats, workshops, and conferences are not just about the content. They are about stepping into a version of yourself that only shows up when you give her room to breathe.
San Diego, the ocean, the sunsets, the conversations, and the clarity that came with all of it? That is what growth looks like for me.
I came home with a fuller vision of where I am headed and a whole lot of gratitude for giving myself permission to go.

“That nudge you feel right now? Do not ignore it.”
The Live and Grow Retreat is coming this fall, and it was made for the woman who is done waiting for the right time and ready to do the work.
November 6 through 9 in Frisco, Colorado. We are gathering for an immersive, hands-on implementation retreat where you will walk away with more than inspiration. You will walk away with a real business plan, a content creation strategy, and personal branding photos that reflect who you are.
This is not a sit-and-listen event. This is a roll-up-your-sleeves, get-it-done retreat where every session is designed to move you forward.
Business Planning — Map out where you are going and build the roadmap to get there. No more vague goals. You will leave with clarity and a plan you can actually execute.
Content Creation — Learn how to create content that attracts the right people, builds your visibility, and works for you long after you post it.
Personal Branding Photography — Walk away with images that represent your brand with confidence and intention, photos that tell your story and position you as the expert you already are.
Are you a woman entrepreneur who is serious about growing her business, stepping into her visibility, and building something that truly reflects who she is, this retreat has your name on it.
Spots are limited, and November will be here before you know it.
I would love to have you in the room.
